The Kidz Times Issue #1

Road Safety – Do you see this on the roads?

These kids are about to cross a road while looking at the phone.

Many people all over the world are doing the exact same thing. It is dangerous as if the green man suddenly turns red or some drunken person drives by, you might get hit and die or get seriously injured.

Questions to think about after reading the article:

  • Do I think that I should do this?
  • Is this right?
  • Why do they do such things?
  • If my friends and family are doing this, how can I help?

Story of the week

magic_treeThe Magic Tree

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a magic tree. It gave money to poor people. That way the poor could afford to buy expensive things and eat good food like the rich too. If anyone wanted to kill the magic tree, he or she would not be able to do so as the magic tree would live forever.

The tree also had plenty of “bodyguards”;  the bees who lived near the tree. The bees loved the tree dearly and would protect it at all costs as they knew what the tree did for the poor and the needy.

One day, a rich man was jealous of the poor as they got money from the tree when they did nothing while he had to work day and night to earn his money. He decided to kill the magic tree so that the poor could not get any more money. What he did not know was that the tree would live forever and that the bees would defend it. He then took a chainsaw, a handsaw and an ax. He went to the tree and started sawing. No matter how hard he sawed and chopped the tree, the tree was still the same.

Just then, the bees saw what the rich man was doing. They immediately charged at the rich man with their stings facing him. In a split second over fifty bees had their stings in the rich man’s body. Although some of the bees had died, it was worth it. The rich man fled in pain and vowed never to go back there again. The magic tree and the poor lived happily ever after.
